Services — Marking
Writing and Speaking, marked the way exams mark them
Send your students' scripts or recordings. Each comes back with a band score, commentary on all four criteria, and a rewrite of the two weakest passages — within 48 hours.
The four assessment criteria
We mark against the four criteria used across major public exams, each scored 0–5, with commentary the student can act on.
Content
Did the candidate do the task? All points covered, on topic, at the required length. The commonest reason strong writers lose marks.
Communicative Achievement
Register and genre: does an email read like an email, a report like a report? Is the tone right for the stated reader?
Organisation
Paragraphing, sequencing, and linking. Whether the text is easy to follow — not whether it uses many linking words.
Language
Range and accuracy of vocabulary and grammar, weighed against the level. Ambition with errors can outscore safe, flat language.
Why the rewrite matters
A score tells a student where they are; it does not show them what better looks like. For every script we rewrite the two weakest passages in full, at the level the candidate is aiming for, so the difference is visible sentence by sentence. Teachers tell us this is the part students actually read.
Automated feedback and human marking
Automated writing feedback is good at scale: it is instant, cheap, and consistent, and we recommend it for practice volume. Human marking adds what automation does not claim to offer — accountability. A named reviewer signs the score, stands behind the band, and can be asked why. Most of our school clients use both: automated tools between lessons, human marking before the exam. They are layers, not rivals.
